Equine rescue is new to Heart N Soul Farm. But a cause that has been near and dear to our hearts for years.

The equine world has an ugly secret - horses are regularly sent to Mexico to be slaughtered. The long drive, often in crowded conditions without adequate food, water or rest leads to a horrifying end for the animals that survive transport. The slaughter pipeline does not care if a horse is young or old, pregnant or not, injured or healthy. It only cares about the carcasses.

In 2019, we adopted a horse that had been rescued from the slaughter pens. In 2022, it was time to do some rescuing of our own. And thus Heart N Soul Farm started down the path of equine rescue by saving a mom/baby donkey and 2 pregnant horses that would otherwise have been shipped to a slaughterhouse the next day. The goal for these rescues is to give them a soft place to land and get a point where the babies are weaned, then adopt them out.
